Installing Joomla on a Windows server can be tricky, on Windows running IIS even more so. Installing Joomla 1.5 in this scenario has caused many frustrations.

In this video, we take the process step by step and jump over the hurdles that cause some people to wind up pulling their hair out.

If you follow along closely, you will be up and running in no time, and if you haven't already tried to do this, you will wonder why people find it so difficult.

This is a great video. On thing that I ran across though was an error when I used MySQL 5.1. I had to uninstall and install 5.0 to get it working all the way through.

About configuration.php permissions......

BEFORE you go to your www.domain.com/administrator page and begin your setup procedure, you should first create a BLANK configuration.php file and give IUSR_ServerName Read and Write permissions to it.

Then your setup will be written to this file and you will not have to create the file by hand.

I love my IIS but I wanted to install Joomla - You made it happen. Very nice tutorial. I just want to add I initially had error 505 during installation using mySQL version 5.1.31. I downgraded mySQL to version 5.0.77 and I was able to complete the install and I didn't even have to manually edit configuration.php. I run Joomla 1.5.9.

I am also getting the File 500 error after the MySQL information is input. I get another message that comes up if it tries to refresh about a MySQL access violation. I uninstalled MySQL 5.1 and installed 5.0.67 and am having the same issue. So I went back to square one and nuked the server and reinstalled everything from scratch and still the same thing. Could this be a problem with running Exchange on this server and OWA?

I got the MySQL, PHP5 and Joomla 1.5 setup working by choosing MySQL 5.0.67 instead of MySQL 5.1.30. This resolved the HTTP 500 error showing up after entering the MySQL database information in the Joomla 1.5 installer.

I get the same http 500 error after the page where you name/provide information about your MySQL database. This is after following all three tutorials (PHP, MySQL and Joomla). Is there a problem with rights that are overlooked in the tutorial? Is it something else?

I have the same problem with "http 500" error after filling up database name, server name. When there is an FTP configuration in your tutorial, I get a 500 error. Please help

After review all 3 parts(Video) to installing Joomla 1.5 on a microsoft 03 server with IIS(with all updates) I get to the last part when installing Joomla and entering the localhost and root and password and database name and hit next to goto the ftp part and before it gets to that screen I get a Http 500 error message and cant get to the screen were I can enter the website info. I have uninsalled everything and tried it over and over and still no matter what I cant get to the next screen. PLEASE HELP>>>
