Free backup is finally here. Mozy Remote Backup. There is no shortage of tutorials on the net that show you how to install PHP on Windows with IIS, but since it is a base requirement for so many other things we plan on writing tutorials for, we decided to do a PHP only tutorial for Windows 2003 and IIS.

In this tutorial, we start with a fresh Windows 2003 Standard server with Internet Information Server (IIS) already up and running. We download PHP5, install it manually and configure IIS to serve PHP pages. We don't get into any special editing of the PHP.INI file, but that will be covered in other, more specific tutorials on this site. Looking for more help? Search Amazon for PHP books

2003 Server with Sharepoint installed
written by konnichiwa, July 05, 2008
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I'm embarassed to say that I tried it and couldn't even get up to the stage that the tutorial starts from!! I'm a real newbie at working with servers and you will probably laugh at me, but I couldn't even get to the stage of getting a shortcut working to 'http://localhost' - this brought up an error page. My server's name has been changed to 'myshare' but when I put this in instead of localhost, I still got an error page.

Also, the C:Inetpubwwwroot brought up an error also. Should I be replacing Inetpub with myshare?

I apologise if I sound ridiculously stupid!! I'm a true newbie, but I'm a keen learner.

The server I am working on has Sharepoint installed on it and I wonder if that might have something to do with the trouble I'm having...? My employer wants a Joomla website in the root directory of our domain name and a Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 site in a sub-domain of our domain name. Does anyone know if this is a possibility? Any suggestions would be much appreciated! smilies/smiley.gif

Execute permissions?
written by BB, June 30, 2008
Maybe I'm overlooking something, but the server wouldn't work until I set execute permissions to "script only". Other than that, excellent tutorial!

SOLVED: Permission issues with IIS6 on 2003 Server
written by Jim Hubbard, April 28, 2008
For those getting dialog boxes asking you to log in to the index.php page or getting 401.x - 403.x permission issues, using Windows Explorer you may want to add the IIS_WPG and IUSR_ServerName users to your PHP directory, giving them both Read, Read & Execute and List Folder Contents permissions. It worked for me....but your mileage may vary.

After trying to get PHP 5 to work with IIS on a Win 2003 Server running in a VMWare session for 2 days, this tutorial made it seem SO simple! Don't edit your php.ini file to start despite what every other website tells you! Get it up and running using this tutorial and then tweak the PHP via the php.ini file! Thanks for a great site!
